Dr. Barbour retired in March 2020. We know she will be missed by many, but her patients can be confident they will continue to receive the same excellence in care from the other doctors and staff at our clinic. We wish her a Happy Retirement and many adventures for the years ahead.

Dr. Joyce Barbour is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry, where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1978. Before and after graduation she was involved in vision research at the National Research Council. She has been practicing in Bells Corner since 1980 and has been involved with the Nepean Optometric Clinic since its inception. Dr. Barbour practices full scope optometric care and especially enjoys contact lens care, pre- and post-op laser refractive surgery care and the co-management of ocular health conditions. She became certified in the use of therapeutic drugs in 2009.

Dr. Barbour has served her profession locally, provincially and nationally in various roles. She worked with the College of Optometrists of Ontario, the profession’s regulatory body, serving on both the Optometry Review Committee and the Quality Assurance Committee. She continues to be an assessor for the Quality Assurance Program. Dr. Barbour’s more recent involvement has been with the Canadian Examiners in Optometry where she is an assessor of the clinical skills of optometrists applying to be licensed to practice in Canada and also sits on several CEO committees that are involved in the process of establishing and maintaining the standards for the examinations for these same optometrists.
